Insurance

Are you already covered?

You may already have full travel insurance, and in most cases this will mean that you won’t need to do anything more. However, you should double check the details of this insurance to make sure that it does still protect you fully.

Check whether it covers the country that you are swapping to, the amount of luggage you are taking and any activities you may wish to pursue within your new role or leisure time whilst there. Note that hazardous sports are often excluded from a basic policy. It is also worth checking health and safety coverage.

Lots of swappers stay employed by their existing company during their swap, as it makes arrangements much simpler. If this is the case, your employer should check that their insurance policy covers you for international assignments.

If you are swapping employment contracts as well as jobs, you will need to make sure that your new employer has checked their insurance policy or extended cover for you before you travel. MAKE SURE YOU SEE A COPY OF THE SWAP COMPANY’s INSURANCE to be on the safe side.
