Main visa types

With effect from 1 February 2008, the Professional Visit Pass (PVP) will be replaced by two Work Passes with the Miscellaneous Work Pass: For foreigners entering Singapore for short-term assignments or Work Permit (Performing Artiste): For foreign artistes performing at night-clubs, lounges, pubs, restaurants, hotels and country clubs

Are you eligible?

From 1 February 2008, the following groups of foreigners entering Singapore for short-term assignments will require a Miscellaneous Work Pass (previously Professional Visit Pass categories A to C as shown below):

  • A) A foreigner who is involved in activities directly related to the organisation or conduct of any seminar, conference, workshop, gathering or talk concerning any religion, race or community, cause, or political end;
  • B) A foreign religious worker giving talks relating directly or indirectly to any religion; and
  • C) A foreign journalist, reporter or an accompanying crew member not supported/sponsored by any Singapore Government agency to cover an event or write a story in Singapore.

Foreign artistes performing at night-clubs, lounges, pubs, restaurants, hotels and country clubs, would no longer be issued with a Professional Visit Pass and instead be issued with a Work Permit (Performing Artistes).

Application process

  • Complete a Miscellaneous Work Pass application form; and
  • Submit the completed application form and make administrative fee payment at any Singpost post office. Application via EP Online is not available.

An administrative fee of $40 will be charged for every Miscellaneous Work Pass application submitted. Payment can be made at any SingPost post office using cash, NETS or Cashcards.

All manual applications submitted at any SingPost post offices will be routed to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). A SingPost payment advice slip will be issued at the post office.

Do note that MOM will not send acknowledgement letters to employers to inform them on the foreigner's Foreign Identification Number (FIN). Applicants can check the assigned FIN about seven days after submitting the application by selecting the 'View Application Status' option in EP Online.

Required documentation

The following documents are required for a Miscellaneous Work Pass application:

  • Miscellaneous Work Pass application form;
    The applicant must be sponsored by a Singapore incorporated body/organisation or a religious organisation registered in Singapore.
    The form must be endorsed with the organisation's stamp/seal and signed by both the applicant and an authorised officer from the sponsoring organisation.
  • A synopsis of talk if the applicant is:
    Involved in activities directly related to the organisation or conduct of any seminar, conference, workshop, gathering or talk concerning any religion, race or community, cause, or political end.
    Giving talks relating directly or indirectly to any religion.
  • A passport-size photograph of the applicant (taken within the last three months);
  • A copy of the personal particulars page of the applicant's travel document/passport; and
  • Business Profile/Instant Information/Registration papers
    - Companies/businesses registered with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) within the past three months must produce the Business Profile/Instant Information from ACRA.
    - Companies/businesses or professional practices not registered with ACRA must produce registration papers from their respective professional bodies.

For non-English certificates or documents, a copy of the original certificates/documents and the official English translation certified by the respective embassy, must be submitted.

The application outcome will be mailed to the local sponsor about three weeks from the date of application (excluding two working days for postage). The processing time will be slightly longer during peak periods or when additional information is required from the various economic agencies to assess the application.

Due to preliminary checks being carried out before the application is logged into the processing system, the applicant may only check the assigned FIN and application status about seven days after submitting the application. This can be done by selecting the 'View Application Status' option in EP Online (No password is required for this function).
