Visas

A. Introduction

So what paperwork do you need in order to do the swap? Well, it depends on the country you are intending to swap to, the one you are swapping from, your age, and the length of time that you are swapping for. Some swapping situations require no visas or work permits at all, and others require a bit more work.

But, if the thought of filling out all that paperwork is just too much, you can get help fast from one of our hand-selected visa experts, by simply clicking on the ‘ask the expert’ link. They will fill out and collate all of the necessary forms for you, submit your application to the relevant immigration department, chase them up, and guide you through the process; so that you can spend your time attending to all the other steps.

There are lots of different work permits, but the main ones you will come across are:

Working Holiday Permit

This kind allows you to work in a country for a specified amount of time and is the main one to focus on. As you will see there is a wide variety of working holiday visas. We have tried to cover the as many as possible in the site.

Temporary Working permits

These visas are usually provided for people who are already employed by a company and are looking to work overseas for a short period of time on a project related to their work. Whilst not all countries offer this form of visa, its usually the most flexible and the one that most swappers try to get as it also requires the minimum amount of paperwork and associated terms. The major constraint is usually the duration of the stay, typically this is restricted to 90 days.

Student Visas

Many governments operate overseas student programmes that are aimed at attracting students to study in the country for a set period of time. These visas can also allow you to find work, although the hours each week you can work are usually restricted.

And don’t forget about the Tourist Visa

As the name suggests, this isn’t a permit to work, but a visa to enter a country for a set period of time for non business related i.e. employment activities. Swappers are often tempted by applying for a tourist visa. We strongly advise that if you are thinking about this, do not apply. If you get caught working on a tourist visa then there are a range of punishments which include fines, imprisonment or expulsion from the country. If you are an employer, make sure you see the paperwork! For more information on partners we would recommend, Asking one of our expert visa partners or try the links here:
